Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are examining a gunfire incident that occurred on the evening of April 18 at Howe Community Park at the moment Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispersing a large unauthorized gathering of multiple hundreds of people.
Prior to the Shooting
Sacramento County law enforcement were first dispatched to the Arden-Arcade park at about 6:30 PM on April 18 after obtaining information of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Following that, additional information came in mentioning an alleged brawl happening at the location.
Aerial units searched from above but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Despite this, it became clear that several hundred individuals had assembled at the park without authorization.
The Moment Gunfire Erupted
Officers started clearing the unauthorized gathering by surrounding the park and making announcements commanding the assembled crowd to leave immediately. About 15 minutes were provided for the crowd to leave.
Just as the crowd began to move that upwards of 20 gunshots were fired. The sudden gunfire sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies at once began searching for victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
When the dust settled, four gunshot victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The four individuals — including a female and three males all believed to be in their early to late twenties — were taken to nearby hospitals. Doctors and nurses Home Depot Sacramento shooting stated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Fortunately, all four were expected to survive.
Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and provided medical assistance shooting victims at the park.
The Investigation
The center of the incident was believed to have unfolded adjacent to the Cottage Way corridor near the local Home Depot at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel found additional shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Ballistic damage were also found in the iron fence surrounding the Home Depot. These discoveries pointed to that at least one shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot store. The nearby Home Depot was placed on lockdown while law enforcement worked the area. CSI investigators and detectives remained on scene well into the night.
Suspects Detained
Reports confirmed over police scanner frequencies confirmed that a Kia was intercepted in Solano County. Four detainees were held for questioning. Sheriff's units were dispatched to Solano County to bring the suspects back for further questioning. Surveillance footage confirmed that two shooters had been involved.
